Ruthie Mitchell is a Research Associate I in the Sabeti Lab supporting single-cell RNA sequencing projects to investigate gene expression and important factors for infection and immune response both sides of the host-pathogen relationship for different viruses. She is broadly interested in genetics, immunology, biochemistry, and public health.
Ruthie received her B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Chicago, where she also minored in Human Rights and played for the women’s varsity soccer team. As an undergraduate, she worked as a research assistant in Dr. Andrea Piunti’s chromatin biology and pediatric oncology lab on experiments characterizing a subunit of the polycomb repressive complex 2 (PRC2). She also has research experience in plant biology through lab internships at the University of California, Davis and Foray Bioscience in Cambridge, MA.
Outside of the lab, Ruthie spends her time playing soccer, going for runs, hiking, and generally enjoying the outdoors. She can also be found playing guitar, listening to music and podcasts, dancing, trying new recipes, eating pastries, or reading for fun.
