Jon Arizti Sanz is a postdoctoral researcher in the Sabeti lab. His graduate work in the lab focused on the development, validation and deployment of genomic technologies for infectious disease outbreak detection and response. Jon’s research interests extend to other early warning systems for pandemic response and the impact of emerging (bio)technologies on biosafety and biosecurity.
Jon completed his PhD in Medical Engineering from the Health Sciences & Technology (HST) department, a collaborative program between Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard Medical School. Prior to his doctoral studies, Jon earned his degree in Materials Science and Engineering at Imperial College, London. This interdisciplinary background equips him with a unique perspective on complex biomedical challenges.
Jon is originally from the Basque Country in Spain. In his spare time, Jon enjoys a variety of activities that include dancing, cinema and cooking, and he maintains an active lifestyle through swimming, running, and playing squash. Jon is hoping to kickstart his acting career through the Sabeti lab Holiday card and is eagerly awaiting Academy Award. Any time now!
