Ben Zhang is an MD candidate in the Health Sciences & Technology (HST) track at Harvard Medical School. In the Sabeti lab, Ben has been working on CRISPR-based diagnostics – developing novel assays for detecting and subtyping flu, spearheading the SHINE-Cas12 platform and duplex SHINE. More broadly, Ben is interested in exploring computational methods in the genetics and CRISPR space.
Ben studied Molecular and Cellular Biology at Harvard College, graduating with summa cum laude honors in 2022. Ben’s senior thesis that he completed in the Sabeti lab titled, “Mitigating the health impacts of viral pandemics with CRISPR-based diagnostics” was awarded the Thomas T. Hoopes prize for outstanding scholarly work or research.
Outside of the lab, Ben loves to stay active playing tennis, squash, and volleyball.
