Mariétou Faye Paye is a Project Manager within the Sabeti Lab at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Her work is focused on managing WARN-ID’s research activities across the US and West African countries. The WARN-ID is part of a coordinated network of NIH/NIAID-funded CREID located in regions around the world where emerging and re-emerging infectious disease outbreaks are likely to occur. Mariétou oversees the programmatic, financial and logistical aspects of the lab’s role in the WARN-ID and work closely with our WARN-ID partners in Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Senegal, and Liberia to advance capacity and infrastructure for outbreak response.  WARN-ID’s overall research is aimed at improving understanding of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases in West Africa and creating effective strategies to rapidly respond to future outbreaks. The network is working to develop diagnostics, improve sequencing capacity, and expand surveillance across the regions served by our partner sites. This work will develop the infrastructure, diagnostic assays, reagents, and computational tools to formulate effective strategies for discovering, mitigating, and ultimately preventing the emergence or re-emergence of human infectious diseases.

Prior to joining the Broad Institute, Mariétou worked at the US CDC as a senior microbiologist and country operation manager for several West African countries. The US CDC, she managed and implemented epidemic and outbreak response, research projects, country planning and operation as it relates to Bacterial Meningitis. Mariétou worked as a subject matter expert in capacity building, data collection analysis & management, laboratory system management, research design, planning, and implementation, inter-countries disease surveillance and management across neighboring African countries.

Mariétou obtained her PhD and MSc in Chemistry from the Georgia Institute of Technology and her BA from the Middlebury College in Biochemistry and French.
