Anika Vinzé was Associate Director of the Sentinel program within the Sabeti Lab at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Her work focused on providing strategic guidance and leadership for Sentinel – a surveillance and early warning system that detects viral threats in real time, allowing the global community to stop infectious diseases before they spread. She worked closely with senior scientists, executives, and collaborators, both internally and externally, to increase impact and grow this effort in West Africa and beyond. While Sentinel was conceived before the COVID-19 pandemic, it has played a critical role in response efforts, while simultaneously setting the stage for how we can leverage next generation genomics and informatics to address future infectious disease threats.
Prior to joining the Broad Institute, Anika was a Manager with Accenture’s Health and Public Service practice, where she worked with clients across the public health spectrum to employ digital health and advanced analytics solutions to improve health outcomes. An epidemiologist by training, prior to Accenture Anika spent a number of years in the global health arena, with a focus on infectious disease surveillance and humanitarian affairs.
Anika holds a BA in Biological Science from Rice University, MSPH in Global Disease Epidemiology and Control from Johns Hopkins University, and MBA from Washington University in St. Louis.
